HUMAN DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

Fighter: See in the dark and murder things with an ancestral farm implement.

Wizard: Illuminate the dark, cast serious wizard spells, heal people, brew questionable potions, and murder spell-resistant problems with a fauchard.

Rogue: Go first, move fast, and murder things with an elf sword that apparently belonged to Grandma.

They're villagers. They're just very fucking dangerous villagers.

PEACEFUL & WHOLESOME HUMAN BACKGROUNDS

1. Traveling Flower Garden

You were raised aboard a wagon overflowing with flowering vines, fragrant herbs, and colorful blossoms, bringing the scents of lavender, mint, chamomile, and wildflowers to villages in the form of fresh bouquets, wreaths, sachets, fragrant herbs, and soothing teas. Your family's signature midday meadow garland, woven from azure cornflowers, goldenrod, and crimson clover, releases a fleeting aroma of wild jasmine, crushed mint, and calming lavender that lingers for a single day.

You always smell faintly of fresh wildflowers. The particular scent changes unpredictably—lavender, jasmine, mint, clover, roses.

2. Apiarist, Brewer & Candlewright

You combine the gentle art of beekeeping with the crafts of the hearth. You tend peaceful village hives to harvest golden honey, fermenting it into sweet celebratory meads while using the leftover beeswax to hand-dip clean-burning candles that light the winter nights.

When concentrating, you unconsciously hum, almost like a contented beehive.

3. Saponifier-Tanner

You live in a constant olfactory war, balancing the notoriously foul odors of the tannery with the clean, pleasant scents of the soap workshop. You process the village's livestock harvests, using wood-ash lye to cure rough animal hides into supple leather while boiling those same fats with wild botanicals to forge the fragrant soap that keeps the settlement clean.

You've perfected masking your scent. For 1d4 hours after washing, you can't be detected by scent.

4. Baker

You are the warm heart of the settlement's mornings, rising long before dawn to stoke the great brick ovens. You transform the village's raw grain into crusty sourdough loaves, braided rye, and sweet morning pastries, providing the essential, life-giving nourishment that fuels a hard day of labor in the fields.

5. Stone Mason

You shape the timeless bones of the earth into structures that outlast generations. Armed with heavy mallets and iron chisels, you split raw quarry boulders into precise blocks, raising sturdy stone hearths and frost-resistant foundations. Secretly, you dream of being a stone sculptor, though there is simply no demand for elegant statues in rural villages; instead, you quietly pour your artistry into carving ornate lintels, hidden gargoyles, and subtle reliefs that give the settlement its lasting strength.

6. Dovecote Keeper & Quillmaker

You tend the village's gentle doves and geese, caring for the flocks through every season. Their feathers become fine writing quills for scribes, sturdy fletching for hunters' arrows, and soft down that fills warm pillows and winter bedding.

At random times, a tiny piece of white down drifts lazily nearby. It may float past, follow you for a while, or settle on your nose until you blow it away.

7. Paper Lantern & Kite Maker

You craft delicate vessels of wind and light out of split bamboo and pressed mulberry paper. You spend quiet days painting intricate patterns onto lightweight frames, creating the soaring kites that dance in the autumn gales and the glowing lanterns that illuminate summer night markets and guide travelers home.

8. Potter & Glassblower

You shape the raw elements of earth and sand by turning clay into pots and crocks, and sand into glass bottles and windows.

Sometimes your reflection in glass continues looking at you for a moment after you've looked away.

9. Pipemaker

You carve vessels for quiet contemplation out of briar root, fine clay, and pearwood. You patiently hollow out elegant bowls and smooth stems, polishing the wood to a deep sheen so that elders and travelers can pack them with fragrant field herbs. Though you pay the bills with simple pipes, you harbor the heart of a wood sculptor, using your downtime to whittle intricate beasts and tiny wooden figures into the grain of the wood, watching them slowly vanish into the smoke drifting lazily into the rafters.

You always smell faintly of tobacco.

10. Confiseur

You bring joy to the settlement through the delicate alchemy of sugar, fruit, and spice. You boil wild berries down into brilliant jams, crystallize flower petals, and pull glossy hard candies over iron hooks. You delight in blending fragrant herbs, orchard fruits, and warming spices into sweets that soothe the spirit and brighten even the hardest day's work.

Herbivores find you unusually pleasant-smelling and will lick you if given the opportunity. Even wild herbivores may investigate you while you sleep.

11. Shrine Warden

You protect the open road by maintaining miniature wooden chapels built on tall posts or nestled within ancient oaks. By keeping candles lit, hanging flower garlands, and leaving offerings of vodka or rice wine, you pacify the wilderness—ensuring that forest spirits, river demons, and restless ghosts respect the path and leave travelers in peace.

Occasionally, you wake to find a tiny offering beside where you slept—a flower, smooth pebble, acorn, or feather.

12. Archivist & Book Conservator

You lovingly restore tattered family journals and ancient poetry books while also mapping safe roads, local landmarks, and the geographical bounds of neighboring settlements for travelers.

You occasionally dream about reading books you've never seen.

13. Mill-Tender & Toywright

You master the intricate world of gears, weights, and kinetic motion across all scales. You spend your days regulating the massive wooden cogs of the village watermill to grind grain while using your downtime and miniature tools to forge small brass springs and clockwork gears, crafting whimsical mechanical toys.

When everything around you becomes completely quiet, you hear a faint ticking of tiny gears.

14. Hoopwright

You are the woodwright of the settlement, mastering the unique art of binding wood under tension. You craft the heavy wheels that keep wagons and carts rolling, the watertight oak barrels needed to preserve the village's food and ale, and the sturdy buckets relied upon for well water and milk.

15. Wool-Spinner & Quilter

You keep the settlement warm through the coldest seasons by transforming raw fleece into cozy bedding. You wash, card, and spin sheep's wool into soft yarn, weaving heavy fabrics and stitching layered quilts filled with scraps of cloth that preserve generations of family memories.

16. Stargazing Shepherd

You spend long, solitary nights on open hillsides keeping watch over a sleepy flock of sheep, using the quiet hours to study the constellations, track the phases of the moon, and navigate the dark landscape by the light of the stars.

17. Stew Pond Keeper & Bridge Warden

You tend a series of quiet ponds stocked with carp, tench, and eels, mending weirs and sluice gates while watching dragonflies skim the water and herons patiently stalk the shallows. As caretaker of the village stream, you are also expected to inspect the valley's lone bridge each month to ensure no troll has decided to take up residence beneath it.

Your eyes reflect light like a fish's in the dark.

18. Tailor-Cobbler

You clothe the settlement from head to toe by mastering the crafts of needle and leather. You spend your days stitching warm woolens, patching worn elbows, darning socks, and replacing the sturdy soles and heels of the boots needed to survive tough village labor.

Some unseen fey spirit replaces missing buttons on your clothing while you sleep. The replacement never matches.

19. Basket Weaver & Thatcher

You harvest the supple offerings of wetlands and riverbanks, mastering the weaving of reeds, willow switches, sturdy straw, and hemp fibers. Your hands spend the spring intertwining pliable wicker into harvest baskets, fishing creels, and stout rope, while your late summer is spent scaling roof timbers to layer thick, watertight bundles of thatch that keep village homes dry through the heaviest rainstorms.

Small birds and animals occasionally try to nest in your hair while you sleep. You can't have a beard.

20. Sad Berserker Lumberjack Bard

You are a shirtless, emo demi-god of pure angst—a walking paradox of heavy metal, tragic music, water, and woodlands. You howl with wolves, scream of eternal war, and shed bitter tears while hacking down the absolute best mountain trees for cozy village houses and fine furniture. Once the timber is cut, you surf the logs downstream to the lumbermill, expertly log rolling through whitewater rapids, dodging the occasional aquatic ogre, and punting massive aerials over giant beaver dams. You desperately need a girlfriend, but unfortunately your dating pool consists entirely of vengeful dryads whose trees you just chopped down and jilted freshwater nymphs exhausted by your broken promises and endless tearful apologies.

No, not really.

Forester

You spend your days selecting mature trees for careful harvest, planting new saplings in their place, and guiding timber downstream to the village mill. You know every bend of the river, every game trail through the forest, and every ancient tree that should never be felled—perhaps because you once spent 1d4 years trapped by the dryad who calls it home.

Beavers start with a friendly attitude toward you.

PATHFINDER 1E — SLEEPY VALE ENCOUNTER GENERATOR

Generate two Pathfinder 1e encounters for a LEVEL 1 PARTY: one CR+0 and one CR+2.

Keep the tone peaceful, wholesome, absurd, weird and/or silly.

The encounters must arise from the character's ordinary village life.

No Skill checks, just combat and/or thought provoking.

Use actual Pathfinder 1e creatures, animals, fey, vermin, oozes, elementals, constructs, environmental weirdness, and animated objects freely. Don't default to “an object from the profession becomes angry.”

Each encounter needs SETUP, ENEMIES, SPECIAL RULES, TACTICS, and REWARD.

Rewards should usually be mundane, silly, sentimental, inconvenient, or of trivial value rather than standard treasure.

Replace LEVEL 1 with the party's level. The AI will create two Pathfinder 1e encounters: one at the party's level and one two CR higher. For example, entering Level 1 produces a CR 1 and CR 3 encounter.

One or two encounters should be enough, now get the fuck out of the valley and jump into the
